Pool Safety
Awareness |
|
In response to a
recent tragedy in our community, the PVVFD and the Town
of Pleasant View are working together to provide pool
owners with safety tips regarding their pool, as well as
educate the citizens on the adopted codes that apply to
pools. Our
goal is to ensure that no pool owner and no family has
to experience a tragic event related to something that
is supposed to provide recreation and relaxation.
Additionally, we hope that by doing so, our personnel
will never have to respond to an event such as this. |

According to the US
Consumer Product Safety Commission: |
| -In
states with climates that allow the use of
swimming pools, drowning is the leading cause of
accidental death in and around the home for
children under the age of 5 years |
|
-Nearly half of child victims were last seen
inside the house before the accident occurred |
|
-Nearly 7 of 10 victims were not expected to be
in or at the pool at the time of the accident |
|
-Nearly 8 of 10 victims had been missing for 5
minutes or less at the time they were found |
|
|
Did you
know that there are regulations regarding ANY
type of recreational pool that holds more than
24" of water? This applies to in-ground,
above-ground, and on-ground pools - including
the inflatable type, or "Easy Set" pools that
have recently become popular. |
 |
|
- - Pools
that meet this criteria (24" of water) must have a
48" barrier in place
- - If stairs
are present, they must be gated (specific gate
requirements apply - see Code)
- - If a
ladder is present, it must be removable, or behind a
gated enclosure
