Annual Statistics:

2007 # of calls:  1,519

Our volunteers averaged four (4) calls per day

FIRES

On average, two (2) homes a month will experience a fire in our district. Responding to fires -- all types -- buildings, grass and car fires requires a lot of equipment and volunteers. Help us reduce our annual fire losses. Check out our fire prevention programs.

How Much Does

Our Community Save Because of Our Volunteers?

  • Our Volunteers give 46,260 hours annually

  • This is 1,250 hours per Volunteer Firefighter

  • The independent sector places a dollar value on a volunteer hour @ $17.29 in Tennessee

  • At this rate, each Volunteer Firefighter gave $21,617 worth of their time to our community

  • This is a total value of $799,835 per year

  • Isn't a $60 membership donation a worthwhile investment?

It takes $3,260.00 to outfit a volunteer with the required equipment. this translates to 55 households needed for each volunteer, just to have them suited up and ready to respond.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Why should I donate to the Volunteer Fire Department?

No one in our fire district pays a tax for fire service. Yes, we get some amount of funding from local government; however, this amount of funding is not enough to operate a fire department. The current means of providing fire service is efficient because several local governments partner through the fire department to provide services to the citizens. If each of the four governments we serve provided their own fire department, the system would cost millions of dollars. Your membership donation is the base of funding for our fire department's operation and the most vital resource we have is our volunteers.

Why do we ask for your membership donation?

PVVFD is a donation based volunteer fire department. You don't need us to tell you that times are hard, or share a sad story about how hard it is because you know that all too well. What we would like to share with your is the fact that it's not all about money. Economic issues are certainly challenging. Additionally, the lack of human resources really causes a crisis for us when the service is primarily provided by volunteers. You membership donation helps support our volunteers and we are truly thankful!

We have avoided a fire tax for years; how long can this continue? Should it continue? Those who have consistently paid their annual membership dues for years have provided for those who have not. The local government donations help cover those who cannot pay, however, it isn't enough to cover those who choose not to pay. The advantage of a fire tax is that everyone pays their share. The disadvantage is those who cannot afford a tax have another economic burden. The primary reason we have worked so hard to avoid a fire tax over the years is because the tax would have to be too high due to the amount of assessed property valuation which does not generate enough money to cover ALL fire department expenses. Your membership donation helps us avoid the fire tax for another year!
